The Printing House was formed a little over 17 years ago by well-known local businessman Derek Springthorpe and Martyn Winstanley.
Today, it employs 36 people in 14,000 square feet of purpose-built premises on the Marshfield Bank Employment Park in Middlewich Road and is one of the biggest printers in the North West.
Mr Springthorpe is delighted that the business is being bought by his son, Paul, and his fellow Director Peter Harrison – and that they are bringing in even more technology to reduce the cost of buying print.
“We started this company when the country was recovering from the last property crash and we invested in people and technology to make print buying efficient and cost-effective”, said Derek Springthorpe.
“Now we have customers who are feeling the pinch because of the latest credit crunch and I am delighted that Paul and Peter are carrying on that tradition”.
The company has rebranded its online shopping site – www.printbuyingdirect.co.uk – which enables companies anywhere in the country to specify, order and design print online, using the latest digital presses so that even very low numbers can be produced cost-effectively.
The Printing House has also installed a new ‘robot’ platesetter which produces printing plates automatically, saving labour.
And successful local Suzuki & Mitsubishi motor group Grensons recently sold seven cars as a result of a single postcard mailing, using the company’s variable data printing technology.
“Adding internet-based access to our traditional sales base and introducing new approaches help us to reduce costs for our customers”, said Peter Harrison.
Paul Springthorpe, who is joint Managing Director with Mr Harrison, said the buy-out was both an exciting and challenging time.
“My father and Martyn created a company that was not only successful but also one that customers enjoyed working with to create great print.
“Apart from the new technology, we have also been busy recession-proofing The Printing House so that our customers can feel secure in the knowledge that we are going to be around for the long term”.
